Wedding Photography Fitzwilliam College | Ophelia & Patrick’s Wedding
Ophelia got ready at home together with her friend Joanna, bridesmaid Felicity and mum Susan. All went well says Marianne, they had some Champagne Truffles and toasted in Champagne, they were driven to the church in a Daimler Limousine. Patrick was able to walk to the church having got ready with his best men Matt & Simon (brother) in a family friends home which was a lovely converted barn next to the church.
Ophelia’s father John knows the church well as he is a former vicar in Grantchester. He walked Ophelia down the aisle, quickly put on his robes and then conducted the marriage ceremony himself, he smiled broadly and the congregation laughed when he said “who gives this woman”. The ceremony went very well.
Waiting for Ophelia outside the church was Susan’s pony called Hooch who was also dressed for the occasion, on his back were wicker baskets full of confetti that the guests took and then threw over the happy couple as they made their way from the church.
The drinks reception was held on the lawn of the Grove an early 19th-century house at the centre of Fitzwilliam College. It was beautiful late Summer’s afternoon and the garden flowers were still in bloom, it was a lovely reception and it felt quintessentially English, their guests enjoyed canapé’s and sparkling wine in the sunshine – we took some refreshing sparkling Elderflower which was delightful.
Their wedding breakfast was held in the Main Hall which was designed in 1962 by Sir Denys Lasdun who also designed the National Theatre in London. The Hall is famous for its iconic roof, Patrick who is an architect loves the architecture of the college, and in particular the Hall. We left this happy couple after the first couple of songs played by the live band Swing Zazou a 30’s & 40’s big band – the party had only just begun.
